A bird is sitting on a skyscraper’s roof, a blue sky with a few disappearing rain clouds visible behind it. A moment later, it takes off and flies away, while the view shifts over to the display of a notebook computer. It shows a Japanese BBS, with many postings saying “good-bye everyone”, “so this is it…”, “wonder if there’s something coming after this…” and such. The clock reads “01:37 am”. The person holding the computer, the protagonist, flips the screen down and closes the lid, after which he proceeds to throw it off the building. While falling, it hits part of another building, breaks apart and falls into the flooded streets below. The view shifts up into the sky – up there looms the sun, expanded into a fierce fireball, growing bigger and bigger, soon burning everything there is and probably not even leaving behind any ashes. Suddenly, the protagonist takes out a cell phone, an incoming call shown on the display, with a heart next to the caller’s name. A moment of hesitation later, he decides to answer his lover’s call. The fireball growing larger, almost spanning the whole horizon, they exchange a few words, while tears start to flow down the protagonists face. Somewhere near the horizon, the fireball touches the ground – the destruction begins, also working its way towards the skyscraper. He spreads his arms, cell phone still in hand, still with the open call, and screams his lover’s name – and as the view shows him from behind, screaming for her, the gigantic fireball finally reaches the building, the view brightening until everything’s white.
